Pokemon GO players are about to get one step closer to the ever elusive complete Pokedex with the return of the Regi trio and the first appearance of Regigigas. The new Pokemon is going to become an EX Raid Boss in November, but players can also get a hold of it through Special Research... If they're willing to pay a certain price.

For the first time ever (outside of geo-specific events), Pokemon GO is adding a Special Research storyline that requires the purchase of a ticket to begin. An interesting twist is that the Special Research ticket cannot be purchased with PokeCoins, which means players are forced to spend real money, rather than currency earned in-game.

Obviously this special research is optional, since players can just wait until November and try to get an EX Raid invite to catch Regigigas the old-fashion way, but the offer is still definitely going to stir up some controversy. Anytime a game introduces content that is completely hidden behind a paywall fans tend to lash out, so it will be very interesting to find out how the Pokemon GO community takes this news.
