With the Water Festival ending and the legendary Water-type Kygore leaving legendary raid battles, Pokemon GO has seen fit to introduce a new third-generation legendary in the form of the Ice-type, Regice. Part of the legendary Pokemon golem trio composed of it, Regirock, and Registeel, the aforementioned titans were first introduced in the Ruby and Sapphire games.

Pokemon GO's addition of the golems follows rumors that leaked online last night of the trio being added to the game. While only Niantic knew in what form and how last night, the company officially revealed it in-game this morning with the following message: "Feel the CHILL! The Legendary Ice-type Pokemon Regice has come to Raid Battles until July 19."

The announcement reveals that players will have nearly a month to add the new legendary to their roster, and presumably, Regirock or Registeel will filter in afterward. Following Latias, Latios, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, this trio are the last gen-three legendaries, with the exception of Deoxys, that could be added to the game. Deoxys is likely to be treated in a manner similar to Mewtwo, so it seems likely that these additions could tease that Pokemon GO is ramping up to add Gen 4 Pokemon. Notably, the legendary Golems get a fourth addition in the form of Regigas (though it hasn't been added yet) in the fourth-gen games, so this wouldn't actually be too surprising if the mobile ARG used this trio to segue into the next gen after they each served time as a Raid Boss.

It's also worth mentioning that Regice, though a powerful Ice-type and solid tank, may be an easy Raid Boss for some to take down. Through weather benefits and type advantages, Regice is easily countered and will give players who manage to do so a powerful counter against Dragon-type Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
