As August gives way to September, Pokemon GO fans are being met with a ton of new content and events for the coming month. Not only were the September and October Field Research breakthroughs revealed, but a special Legendary raid hour event is scheduled to take place today on September 1. This Legendary raid hour will give players 1 hour to catch as many of the Dragon/Flying-type legendary Rayquazas as possible.

What makes this event special is that it's the last chance for Pokemon GO players to get their hands on Rayquaza per a legendary raid hour, and what's more, it's the last chance to get their hands on a Shiny Rayquaza in such a way. The event starts at 6 PM local time, will last an hour, and there will be an increased spawn of Tier 5 raids that feature Rayquaza. Considering that many consider the shiny black Rayquaza as one of the best shinies in-game, many will not want to miss this chance.

It's worth adding that there is roughly a 5% chance of getting a shiny Rayquaza as part of this Pokemon GO event (and that's assuming that it's caught). Repeating raids as quickly as possible puts this at a higher probability, but it's all left to chance. Some may get a shiny Rayquaza on the first encounter of the event, whereas others will do every single one they can and not see one at all.

In order to speed up the time of the raids, it's recommended to go with a group and have a solid team of Pokemon GO Rayquaza counters ready to go. Mamoswine, Glaceon, and Weavile are currently the best counters for the legendary, but there are a number of viable options players can choose from.

After this event, the Pokemon GO September Community Day is set to feature Turtwig on September 15. Since developer Niantic isn't really one to rest on its laurels, it's certainly possible that more events will take place throughout September, especially given the forthcoming introduction of Gen 5 Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is out now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
