With the release of 50 third generation Pokemon imminent as well as the introduction of a new dynamic weather system, it's an exciting time to be a Pokemon GO fan. However, some fans are upset that features like the weather system are being added before things that were promised before launch, like Pokemon trading and PvP battling. In response to these concerns, Niantic has revealed that Pokemon trading is still in the cards, but there is still no timetable for when it will be added to the game.

In an interview with IGN, Niantic global product marketing lead Archit Bhargava explained that Pokemon trading is still something that the team wants to add to Pokemon GO, especially since it was shown in its initial announcement trailer. Similarly, PvP battles are also still planned for the game, but it's anyone's guess as to when they will finally be added.

"We just haven’t fully investigated those and talked about how would we want to bring those into Pokemon GO. So that is definitely something that we’re focused on."

Since Pokemon trading and PvP battles were promised in the game's announcement trailer, some fans may be frustrated that the features still have yet to be added to the game over a year after its release. However, others may be fine waiting on Pokemon trading if it means that other new features, like the dynamic weather system, are added instead.

One reason why some fans may not be too upset about the lack of Pokemon trading is that the feature isn't being implemented how many expected. Before Niantic clarified that people would have to physically be near each other to trade, some expected the trading system to be similar to the mainline Pokemon games on handhelds that allow players to trade Pokemon online. This would allow players to obtain region-exclusive Pokemon that they wouldn't be able to get their hands on otherwise.

When fans found out this wouldn't be possible, it killed a lot of enthusiasm for Pokemon trading in Pokemon GO. Regardless, Pokemon trading was promised since before the game launched, so hopefully Niantic prioritizes it and PvP battles for release in 2018.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
