Around midnight on October 18, 21 year old Cayla Campos was playing Pokemon GO with her boyfriend at Bianchetti Park near her apartment in Albuquerque, New Mexico when she witnessed an armed robbery. Campos and her boyfriend were sitting in their car, playing Pokemon GO, when they saw two people attempt to rob the driver of a different car. Campos and her boyfriend tried to leave the scene, but the suspects fired at their vehicle. Campos was hit in the back of the head and crashed the car into a house. She later died from her injuries at a nearby hospital.

Police have yet to identify the suspects involved in the shooting and urge anyone with any information to contact them at 505-242-2677. Albuquerque police are attempting to locate a silver four-door sedan and a red car that is possibly a Ford Mustang in connection with the robbery and subsequent shooting.

Campos's best friend Cody Bell spoke with local news station KRQE after the shooting. "Just knowing that I am never going to see her again or talk to her…I am just sorry that her life was taken away so soon," Bell said to reporters. "I feel like there is a piece of me that is missing now."

Unfortunately, the real-world nature of Pokemon GO has seen the game connected to other crimes besides this one. Some may recall reports of thieves using PokeStop lures to ambush and rob their victims, which seemed to be an issue in the game's early days. In another instance, someone was playing Pokemon GO in the early hours of the morning and were robbed at gunpoint. One of the men involved in that Pokemon GO robbery was arrested and convicted for the crime.

Pokemon GO has also been connected to other deaths over the years. The game, especially at the height of its popularity, proved to be a hazard for drivers, as many attempted to play the game and catch Pokemon at the same time. There were multiple vehicle deaths related to Pokemon GO as a result. It seems most Pokemon GO players have stopped playing the game while driving, but it is still a real risk on the road.
