Pokemon GO players are getting extra lucky this month thanks to the opportunity to enjoy two unique Community Day events. If December 2020 ends up featuring a roundup weekend like the last few years have, then these are likely the final two unique Community Days of the year. Players get started this weekend with a chance to track down Electabuzz and its powerful exclusive move.

A Magmar Community Day event will follow up later this month, but for now the focus is all on the Gen 1 Electric-type. The core concept of Pokemon GO Community Day is pretty simple: Go out (or possibly stay-in and use incense...) and catch a ton of pokemon for three hours, but this time around things are different. For Pokemon GO players who need a little more direction than that, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide full of all the intel you need for the big day.

The electric-type badge is likely one that every single player has already acquired, so that likely won't be much of a motivation to stay engaged in this particular event. Although that may be the case, Electabuzz's evolution is pretty popular in the PvP scene and has its occasion uses for PvE, as well. That combined with the chance for shiny encounters should be all the encouragement most active players need to log on and spend a few hours with the game this weekend during the event...

Electabuzz - Gen 1 Electric-type

Date

Sunday, November 15, 2020

Start and End Times

11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time

Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we're back to one time at this point though.

Special Move

Evolve Electabuzz to get the attack Flamethrower.

Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.

Bonuses

1/4 Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event.

Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.

Features

Electabuzz will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!

Evolve Electabuzz during the event or up to two hours afterward to get an Electivire that knows Flamethrower.

Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!

There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Electabuzz Community Day Box available for 1,280 PokéCoins, featuring an Elite Fast TM, three Super Incubators, three Incense, and 30 Ultra Balls.

Event-exclusive Timed Research and Field Research tasks will be available! By completing Timed Research tasks, you’ll be able to earn Sinnoh Stones and other items.

For US$1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access the Electabuzz Community Day–exclusive Special Research story, Electric for Electabuzz.

Elekid will be hatching from 2 km Eggs.

Limited Time Field Research

Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.

Shiny Variant

Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Electabuzz while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.

That’s everything we know at this point! Electabuzz is a very popular Pokemon (and an even more popular shiny) and is likely to give trainers a good reason to take a break the usual daily activities and dive head first into some event tasks. Once the new event arrives in later November, the festivities should give trainers a good reason to continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
