2020 is now in the past with everyone in the world currently experiencing the year 2021. To celebrate the new year, Pokemon GO players are getting something special in the form of special New Year's event raid bosses.
Some of these raid bosses in Pokemon GO have special event cosmetics on them to commemorate the new year, like other events in the past. This includes fan favorites such at the Party Hat Wurmple, which can be fought in Tier One Raids during this event.
While there are some returning faces from last year's new year celebration, there are also a few new ones. This includes one of the new Pokemon brought over from the Kalos region and a certain Pokemon wearing special 2021 glasses instead of last year's 2020 glasses.
There are five different Pokemon that can be found as raid bosses for Tier One Raids. Each of them are capable of spawning as a shiny Pokemon, making them perfect for shiny hunters looking to start off the year with a brand new shiny for their collection. These raid bosses are:
- 2020 Glasses Slowpoke
- Espurr
- Klink
- Party Hat Wobbuffet
- Party Hat Wurmple
For the Tier Three Raids, there are also five different Pokemon that can serve as raid bosses. Most of them have been encountered as a shiny, although it is unknown if 2021 Glasses Slowbro can be. However, a shiny 2020 Glasses Slowpoke can be evolved into a shiny 2021 Glasses Slowbro. These raid bosses are:
- 2021 Glasses Slowbro
- Alolan Raichu
- Party Hat Raticate
- Skarmory
- Sudowoodo
There is only one Pokemon appearing as a raid boss in Tier Five raids, being the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. This legendary Pokemon does have a chance of being shiny, but players will likely need to challenge this powerhouse multiple times in order to find one in that form. As a Tier Five raid, players will most likely need a group of multiple trainers with powerful Pokemon in order to even get the chance of catching it.
Finally, for the Mega Raids, there are three possible Pokemon for players to find as raid bosses. All of them are capable of being shiny and offer the chance for players to use powerful mega evolutions in other tough battles and raids. These Mega Raid bosses are:
- Mega Abomasnow
- Mega Blastoise
- Mega Charizard Y
Many of these raid bosses will only be available for a limited amount of time, so Pokemon GO players looking to celebrate the new year should get out onto the hunt. Plenty of powerful Pokemon are waiting for them at the end of these tough battles.
