Niantic reveals new Pokemon coming to Pokemon GO, including Pichu and Togepi, which can be hatched from eggs that players pick up from Pokestops in their communities.

Last week, developer Niantic confirmed new Pokemon for Pokemon GO, and that new information would arrive soon. Naturally, many Pokemon GO players, especially those who have stayed with the game since its release, are excited for what’s coming.

Today, Niantic revealed what some of those new Pokemon are, and how to get them in Pokemon GO. In a post on Pokemon GO Live, and via a new trailer that can be seen below, Niantic shows off new hatchable pokemon, including Togepi and Pichu. Here’s the official statement from the Pokemon GO Team:

“Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months.”

Interestingly, Niantic has decided to keep these new Pokemon hidden behind eggs, which means players will need to visit Pokestops to pick up eggs, and walk to hatch them. That will take some extra dedication considering many Pokemon GO players are currently experiencing winter weather and temperatures. Fortunately for Pokemon GO players, Niantic recently finalized a deal with Starbucks, turning thousands of the coffee shops into Pokestops or Gyms.

In addition to the new Pokemon coming to Pokemon GO this week, Niantic is kicking off a holiday event with Pikachu, one of the most popular Pokemon ever. Starting December 29th, as players traverse their communities, they’ll spot the lightning Pokemon sporting holiday-themed hats. Niantic is encouraging players to use their Pokemon GO augmented reality cameras to snap a picture of Pikachu in the festive hat and share it online with the hashtag #HolidayPikachu.

In addition to Pichu and Togepi, Niantic is planning to release addition Pokemon in the coming months. Other Pokemon on the docket include Cleffa, Magby, Igglybuff, Tyrogue, Elekid, and Smoochum. However, Pokemon GO players should be aware that not all new Pokemon will be included right away. Rather, as Niantic mentioned, the developer is planning to release new Pokemon regularly over the coming weeks and months, so it’s likely some of these won’t be available until a later date.

In the meantime, Pokemon GO players can start searching for Pichu and Togepi, and prepare for the fun holiday-themed Pikachu event coming up later this month.
