Earlier this summer, Niantic brought the legendary birds Articuno and Zapdos back to legendary raids in Pokemon GO for a three hour window that included shiny f0rms, five free raid passes, and more. Now the legendary bird Moltres will be getting the same treatment, as the fire- and flying-type Pokemon will be coming back to legendary raids for three hours on Saturday, September 8.

Presumably, this special Moltres legendary raid day will see every single gym in Pokemon GO converted to a Moltres raid. As previously stated, Niantic will be giving players five free raid passes, so even if they don't plan on participating in the raids themselves, they may still want to go out of their way to collect the free raid passes.

Since Moltres has already been featured as a Field Research breakthrough reward, some Pokemon GO players may not be all that excited to add even more of them to their collection. However, it's worth pointing out that players actually have a chance of catching a shiny Moltres this time around, plus it will know a special attack. On September 8, some of the Moltreses that players catch will know the move Sky Attack, which should make it especially helpful against certain raid bosses.

Moltres Day isn't the only special event Pokemon GO fans have to look forward to in September. Later on in the month, fans will have the opportunity to participate in Chikorita Community Day, which will see the spawn rate of Chikorita dramatically increase, and will give players the chance to snag a Meganium with an exclusive move. Furthermore, shiny variants of Chikorita will be in much greater supply during the Chikorita Community Day, so Pokemon GO players should be sure to mark September 22 on their calendars.

It's also possible that September will see the addition of the first fourth generation Pokemon to Pokemon GO. Past datamines have indicated that Niantic is already working to add the new batch of creatures to the game, though other datamines have shown that Niantic has removed some of that preparatory data. However, since Regirock will exit legendary raids next month, and is the last third generation Pokemon left, it stands to reason that the addition of gen 4 is right around the corner.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
