The Research tasks in Pokemon GO tend to be pretty lengthy, and Misunderstood Mischief is no exception. After a whopping sixteen-part questline, Misunderstood Mischief's final reward is nothing more than a simple Dusknoir, and Pokemon GO players are taking to social media to voice their disappointment.

The Misunderstood Mischief Special Research started on September 1, and ends on December 1. It serves as Hoopa's official introduction to Pokemon GO, spanning the entirety of its Season of Mischief. After such a long haul, fans are understandably frustrated with the Dusknoirs they've received after such a difficult questline.

Misunderstood Mischief requires plenty of catching, which is typical of any Research in the game. What makes Misunderstood Mischief particularly difficult, however, is the amount of Pokemon it asks players to catch, as well as the specific typing of those Pokemon. For example, to complete the eleventh Research task, players must catch thirty Ghost-type Pokemon and thirty Dark-type Pokemon, both of which are rare finds in Pokemon GO. Players are flocking to a recent Reddit post to express their dismay after investing considerable time and resources in the Special Research.

To make matters worse, the Pokemon Duskull-which evolves into Dusknoir-had a Community Day on October 9, which means players had ample opportunity to obtain a Dusknoir just last month. Moreover, the Duskulls caught on their Community Day were more likely to be shiny, and learned a powerful Legacy Move if evolved on that day. Thus, the Dusknoir obtained at the end of Misunderstood Mischief is nearly useless to players, who likely have far superior versions of the Pokemon in storage.

Niantic has received backlash from fans before, and this newest influx of criticism certainly isn't helping. Pokemon fans are notorious for expressing strong (and often negative) opinions on the franchise, and Pokemon GO is not exempt from such treatment. For a game that requires its players to invest so much time --and, on occasion, money-- in order to succeed, underwhelming quest rewards are especially disappointing.

Even so, the situation may not be as bad as fans are making it out to be. The third task in Misunderstood Mischief does grant an encounter with Hoopa, which players haven't had the chance to catch before. Starting on November 9, Giovanni --who must be defeated to complete the Special Research-- has added a Shadow Lugia to his team, which is also available for capture. Finally, completing Misunderstood Mischief before the end of the month will supposedly unlock another Research task, and rumor has it that the reward for this task will be Hoopa Unbound, a much more powerful form of Hoopa. Hopefully, these rewards will soften the blow for fans of Pokemon GO, and make for useful additions to their teams.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
