Pokemon GO players who have been following Mewtwo's return to EX Raids have been experiencing a bit of a roller coaster ride. After the iconic Legendary appeared as a level 5 boss with a tough as nails 2% base capture rate, the community was incredibly relieved to see the Pokemon's master code revert back to a 6% capture rate in preparation for its return to EX Raids. Don't open the celebratory champagne just yet, because it seems like Niantic is still tweaking the Mewtwo BCR.

Shadow Ball Mewtwo is a serious weapon in the Pokemon GO metagame, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that trainers are eager to get their hands on as many copies of the Legendary with the powerful move set as possible. A 6% base capture rate would certainly help with that, especially when the Legendary is only available through Pokemon GO's EX Raids which are limited to begin with, but the latest changes to the master code suggest the 6% BCR isn't sticking around and players should get ready for the return of the dreaded 2% rate.

It's possible that Niantic is still tweaking the stats and things will change again, but for right now, Mewtwo's base capture rate is back where it was during the tier 5 raids, at 2%. Although that makes the catch significantly more difficult, it's obviously still doable. Players should plan to use Golden Razzberries and ideally complete the EX Raids with at least one Best Friend (here's how to increase Friendship levels in Pokemon GO) and a party made up primarily of people from the same faction. Every extra Premier Ball counts when it comes to a catch like this one.

EX invites for the next round of raids are now out, so players should already know if they're going to have a chance to catch the Legendary on October 11 or October 12. Although the 2% BCR is going to be frustrating, many trainers are still excited about the opportunity to add the Legendary to their battle rosters for PvE. There are lots of very powerful new Unova Pokemon to consider for battle, but Shadow Ball Mewtwo is more than enough reason to keep a Gen 1 DPS ready for battle.
