Now that the February 2019 Swinub Community Day event for Pokemon GO has come to a close, many are casting their eyes forward. It's worth mentioning that there is a forthcoming Clamperl Limited-Time Research event on the horizon, but some are looking toward next month's March 2019 Community Day event. It used to be that this event was revealed a day or two after the preceding event, but recent Community Days have diverged from this pattern, giving players a longer wait.

Provided this pattern-breaking approach doesn't apply to Pokemon selection, players can expect to see Treecko headline the March 2019 Community Day event. There has been a rotating starter, non-starter pattern to the Pokemon GO Community Day-featured Pokemon ever since the monthly event began, so it makes perfect sense for Niantic to begin with Gen 3 starters now. However, it is worth mentioning that, at this rate, Niantic will run out of starters to feature at the beginning of 2020 (or midway through next year if Gen 5 is added). It is plausible that this is an issue Niantic intends to tackle then, but it also possible that Niantic may choose to spread out its use of Pokemon.

There is some evidence that Niantic is looking at shaking up the formula. Eevee Community Day, for example, broke the norm of a three-staged evolution Pokemon and lasted a full weekend as well. The most recent Pokemon GO Community Day event, where players were able to evolve and add a shiny Mamoswine to their inventory, was the first to use the highly coveted gen 4 cross-evolution Pokemon as the headliner. Neither of these was exactly pattern-breaking, but they were slight divergences from the thus far tried-and-true formula.

Perhaps some of the more popular Gen 4 cross-evolutions will appear more during these events, especially given how difficult it is to obtain Sinnoh Stones. This could create enough spacing to extend the lifetime of these Pokemon GO community day events, which players can also likely expect the next Community Day event to occur around March 9 or 16, as the date also seems to follow a distancing formula.

All things considered, it seems like the most likely scenario is Treecko headlining the Pokemon GO Community Day event, but with the addition of these new Limited-Time Research events, it may not always be the powerhouse it has thus far. Only time will tell how Niantic intends to handle Community Day moving forward.

Pokemon GO is out now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
