March 2022 has arrived and Pokemon GO trainers have already been keeping busy with the first few events of the Season of Alola. As the March 2022 Pokemon GO events calendar continues in the coming weeks, players should be earning enough daily stamps to start cashing in this month’s Research Breakthrough reward encounters.

This month’s Research Breakthrough reward changed on the first of March and provides some fresh motivation for players to get out and collect their daily stamp throughout the month. Although the days of guaranteed Legendary Research Breakthrough rewards seem to be a thing of the past, there is still some motivation for Pokemon GO players to continue collecting the daily stamps and cashing them in every time they hit seven.

Just like last month, the main motivation to earn the March encounter is likely going to speak to the game’s shiny collectors. The upcoming Research Breakthrough reward will feature Alola Vulpix (who is not new to the game), but there will be a chance to catch a shiny version. The odds really need to be in the player’s favor for that to work out, considering there will only be a maximum of four encounters earned over the course of the whole month. That said, it’s definitely going to be worth the gamble for players who are on the hunt for that elusive complete shiny dex.

March 2022 Research Breakthrough

From Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. PST to Friday, April 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) Alolan Vulpix will be featured in your weekly Research Breakthrough box. If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one!

The potential to catch a special shiny is likely enough motivation to get lots of players engaged and active in the coming month, even if there are no guaranteed Legendary encounters up for grabs. Alola Vulpix hasn’t really been a major player in the PvP or PvE metagame, but some strategic players may find a use for the Pokemon and its Candy. Even if not, earning Research Breakthroughs is a simple enough challenge (it just requires completing one Task per day) that it seems silly for the average player to skip over it.

That should be just about everything players know about this month’s Research Breakthrough encounter rewards, but we should learn more about other upcoming events during the early days of the Season of Alola. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
