Pokemon GO continues to undeniably be one of the most popular mobile games around. With Niantic dedicated to the game's community in the form of regular updates, events, and new Pokemon additions, such as the recent addition of Pokemon GO's Lake Guardian Trio, there is no slowing down the massively successful AR game. As such, this makes it all the more unfortunate that some Pokemon GO players are having issues with logging in and, in some cases, losing their accounts.

Just a few days following the end of Pokemon GO's Earth Day event, some active players are reporting the following error message:

"Unable to sign in. Please check that this Pokemon GO account exists and you have correctly selected New or Returning Player."

For some Pokemon GO players, the problem gets a bit worse. Reddit user spadesix reported that they had lost their Level 40account on April 24. While they tried to remedy the situation, nothing had seemed to help, saying they attempted to access their account via a login to Facebook. "Tried uninstall and reinstall. Emailed Niantic April 25th, no response besides the automatic," they stated, expressing that they would not be "putting real money into a Niantic game again. The game since launch has been buggy, and basically, I've got nothing to show for spending hours and hours into my game."

Pokemon GO sign-in error message

Niantic responded to spadesix's email today. They said that other Pokemon GO players are currently experiencing similar issues and are intent on fixing them.

"Hi Again,

I can understand your eagerness in accessing your Pokémon GO account. That being said, currently, we do not have any update on the issue that you are facing. We are collecting similar reports from other players as well to fix this issue effectively.

Your understanding and patience towards this situation will be highly appreciated as our team is already investigating this issue.

Have a nice day!"

It is a considerable shame to hear of these reports. Pouring a large amount of time into something that requires as much fortitude as Pokemon GO only to be immensely set back by technical issues is very disappointing. Given that Niantic just released Harry Potter: Wizards Unite's beta in Australia and New Zealand, it may be trying to remain attentive to that and its growing community at this point as well. However, given Niantic has traditionally been fairly interactive with and alert to its expansive Pokemon GO playerbase, it is possible the issue will be fixed soon, especially if it continues to spread.

Pokemon GO is currently available for iOS and Android devices.
