Back in July, Pokemon GO introduced the game's very first Shadow Pokemon. Shadow Pokemon, for the uninitiated, are special Pokemon that players can "purify" to free them from their "shadow" state. To save these Pokemon, players have to find PokeStops invaded by Team Rocket and defeat Team Rocket grunts in battle, then catch the Shadow Pokemon and spend some Stardust. Now there will be at least 11 more Pokemon that Pokemon GO players can find when battling Team Rocket in the game.

As announced by Niantic on the official Pokemon GO Twitter account, 11 new Shadow Pokemon have been added to the lineup of Shadow Pokemon that can be found at PokeStops, with even more available through evolution. For example, players can defeat and catch a Shadow Magikarp at a Team Rocket PokeStop, which they can evolve into Shadow Gyarados, who isn't actually found at any of the PokeStops.

Something else to note is that one of the new Shadow Pokemon confirmed by Niantic isn't technically available to catch in the game yet. Niantic has teased that Shadow Ralts is coming soon, presumably during the August 2019 Community Day event, which features Ralts as the starring Pokemon.

This could be a sign that Team Rocket will play a larger role than expected during the Ralts Community Day on August 3. Perhaps more PokeStops will be invaded by Team Rocket than usual, which would actually be pretty helpful to Pokemon GO players who missed out on the recent event where every PokeStop the world over was taken over for a short period of time.

There is a new Team Rocket Special Research quest that requires players to defeat Team Rocket grunts as well as catch and purify Shadow Pokemon, so the Ralts Community Day may very well provide the perfect opportunity to do just that. In the meantime, the addition of new Shadow Pokemon to Pokemon GO should give players the opportunity to better-complete their collection in the game.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
