The main goal for some Pokemon fans is to complete the entire Pokedex of the respective region, but for others, it's to test the strengths of their Pokemon in competitive PVP battles. That makes the Pokemon franchise one of the best in the gaming industry since it caters to every type of gamer. Even Pokemon GO allows players to choose a playstyle, whether it's the "gotta catch'em all" mentality or trying to be the best Pokemon trainer out there.

Regardless of a player's style, one thing is sure: everyone wants to catch rare, especially mythical-type Pokemon. Meltan is one mythical Pokemon exclusive to Pokemon GO that players will want to get their hands on. But, the only legitimate way of obtaining Meltan in Pokemon GO is by completing the "Let's GO, Meltan" Special Research.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 1

Let's GO, Meltan 1 Pokemon GO
  • Spin 5 Pokestops or Gyms
  • Catch 10 Pokemon
  • Transfer 5 Pokemon

The first step to completing the "Let's GO, Meltan" special research is fairly easy. When spinning these Pokestops/Gyms, it doesn't matter if players repeat the same ones. When catching 10 Pokemon, they can either wait for Pokemon to spawn "naturally" or use a Lure/Incense.

For the final objective, players need to transfer five Pokemon by pressing on a Pokemon, then selecting Transfer. Transferring Pokemon is a good method of farming Candies, so players should Transfer Pokemon that will give them Candies they need. Once these steps are completed, players will receive 1,000 Stardust, 10 Poke Balls, and 1 Incubator.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 2

Let's GO, Meltan 2 Pokemon GO
  • Earn 2 Candies Walking with Your Buddy
  • Make 10 Great Throws
  • Hatch 3 Eggs

The next part of the "Let's GO, Meltan" special research quest starts by having the trainer earn two Candies with their Buddy, which is done by walking. The walk distance depends on the Pokemon (Legendaries and Mythical Pokemon require longer walks), but trainers should complete this objective quickly as long as Adventure Sync is enabled.

Following that objective, players will need to make 10 Great Throws (catching the Pokemon isn't necessary). Finally, to hatch the Eggs, players should equip 2km eggs and use the reward Incubator from the previous step. Players will receive 2,000 Stardust, 2 Lucky Egg, and 1 Fast TM upon completing these objectives.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 3

Let's GO, Meltan 3 Pokemon GO
  • Catch a Ditto
  • Win 2 Gym Battles
  • Battle in 2 Raids

Catching a Ditto is perhaps the most difficult objective in the entire "Let's GO, Meltan" questline, as there's no way of increasing the odds of one spawning (some players believe it's a .3% chance). The only viable method of catching Ditto is to catch every Pokemon a player sees, plus using Incense and Lures since Ditto disguises itself as a random Pokemon.

While players are hunting for the elusive Ditto, they can complete the other two objectives. As long as trainers don't place their best Defender Pokemon in the Gym, players shouldn't have too much of an issue with the Gym Battle goal. Completing these steps will reward players with 10 Great Balls, 3 Incense, and 3 Max Revives.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 4

Let's GO, Meltan 4 Pokemon GO
  • Catch 5 Steel-type Pokemon
  • Catch 5 Electric-type Pokemon
  • Earn 5 Candies Walking with Your Buddy

Catching five Steel and five 5 Electric-type Pokemon can be easily done using a Magnetic Lure Module, which players can buy for PokeCoins. Magnemite, Magneton, and Togedemaru are all dual Steel/Electric-type, so catching any of these species will count towards both objectives.

Once again, players are tasked to earn Candies with their buddies, except this time, they'll need to earn five. Trainers can achieve this faster by using Pidgey, Rattata, or Zigzagoon as a Pokemon Buddy, since they only need to walk 2km to generate a Candy. The rewards for this step are 4,000 Stardust, 5 Pinap Berries, and 5 Rare Candies.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 5

Let's GO, Meltan 5 Pokemon GO
  • Evolve a Grimer
  • Catch 5 Slugma or Gulpin
  • Make 20 Great Throws

The first objective shouldn't be too challenging, since players can evolve a Grimer into a Muk with 50 Grimer Candies. If a player doesn't have enough Candies to evolve Grimer, they can either give it Rare Candies (earned by completing Raids) or make them a Buddy Pokemon and earn Candies while walking.

While earning Grimer Candies, players should keep on the lookout for Slugma or Gulpin since they'll need to catch five (both count towards the total). Players should complete the final objective by aiming to make Great Throws since they'll need 20. The completion rewards are 5,000 Stardust, 20 Great Balls, and 5 Lure Modules.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 6

Let's GO, Meltan 6 Pokemon GO
  • Evolve a Magnemite
  • Catch 5 Exeggcute
  • Battle in 10 Raids

Once again, players will need to evolve a Pokemon if they want to progress through the "Let's GO, Meltan" questline, but this time, it's Magnemite. Trainers will need 25 Magnemite Candies to be able to evolve Magnemite to Magneton. Players who lack the Candies can use a Magentic Lure Module to attract Magnemites.

Following that objective, players must catch five Exeggcute (trading doesn't count). Again, players can use a Mossy Lure Module to attract Exeggcute, but it's not a guaranteed spawn. The final step is quite simple, since players only need to battle in ten raids (winning them isn't necessary). Completing this step will reward players with 1 Silver Pinap Berry, 1 Metal Coat (save it for later), and 10 Ultra Balls.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 7

Let's GO, Meltan 7 Pokemon GO
  • Evolve a Drowzee
  • Catch 1 Cubone
  • Evolve 1 Scyther

Players will need to evolve two Pokemon in the seventh step of the "Let's GO, Meltan" special research. Drowzee is up first, requiring 50 Drowzee Candies to evolve to Hypno. Then players will need to catch Cubone, which doesn't have a special Lure Module to attract it. So, keep an eye on the map and Pokemon Radar to find one in the wild.

Finally, trainers need to evolve Scyther, the Bug/Flying-type. They'll need 50 Scyther Candies and 1 Metal Coat to evolve Scyther into Scizor. (If the player doesn't still have the Metal Coat from the previous step, itcan be obtained via Field Research Breakthroughs.) Upon completing the final objective, players will receive 10 Ultra Balls, 1 Charged TM, and 3 Premium Raid Passes.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 8

Let's GO, Meltan 8 Pokemon GO
  • Catch 2 Omanyte or Kabuto
  • Catch 2 Lileep or Anorith
  • Catch an Aerodactyl

For this step, players must catch several Fossil-like Pokemon from the Kanto and Hoenn regions. And while the tasks listed above may seem daunting, in reality, it shouldn't take too long.

The main reason is that these Pokemon are common Shadow Pokemon rewards that players have a chance at catching after beating a Team Rocket Grunt. So, players should battle every Team Rocket Grunt they see, since they may have a shadow version of these Pokemon. The rewards for completing this step are 8,000 Stardust, 1 Star Piece, and finally, the Meltan encounter.

Let's GO, Meltan – Part 9

Let's GO, Meltan 9 Pokemon GO
  • Automatically Completed

The final step of the "Let's GO, Meltan" special research will be automatically completed, meaning players can immediately claim the reward of 12,000 EXP (make sure to use a Lucky Egg beforehand to double the EXP). The final rewards for completing the entire special research are 9,000 Stardust, 1 Super Incubator, and 5 Meltan Candies.
