Although Battle Raids have recently taken a backseat to Field Research, Pokemon GO players are sure to return to the battling system with the next release of a new Legendary monster. Lugia's return recently got players out and participating in level 5 raids for a chance to catch his shiny variant and it sounds like the next big change will feature a pair of rotating regional monsters.

Pokemon GO players in North America can start hunting down Latios battles today and, on May 8, Latios will fly away and be replaced with Latias. The Dragon- and Psychic-type bosses should offer an exciting challenge for players who are ready to get back to the Battle Raid grind.

Here's an excerpt from the official announcement...

"The Legendary Pokémon Latias will appear in Raid Battles across Europe and Asia, while Latios will appear in North America, South America, and Africa. On May 8, the Eon Pokémon will switch locations and will be available until June 5, so all Trainers will have the opportunity to catch both powerful Pokémon...

'Both Latias and Latios will leave Raid Battles on June 5, so grab your friends and don’t delay! Take on the challenge and seize the opportunity to add even more Legendary Pokémon to your Pokédex. Good luck!"

Pokemon GO raid boss capture theory

The rotation schedule gives players a solid month to catch each boss, which should be plenty of time even for players with terrible luck (knock on wood). Some players may complain that the rotation is too long, but having a full month is very nice for the more casual players.

Players will want to revisit their fighting roster and start powering up a team of fighters that will be strong against Dragon- and Psychic types. We'll post a more detailed strategy for battles against each new legendary in the near future. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
