As part of the ongoing Extraordinary Raid Week event activitiesPokemon GO has added Lapras to all raids in an event-within-an-event called Lapras Day. From now until 2:00pm local time, Pokemon GO players have the chance to battle Lapras in tier-4 raids and add the rare Gen 1 Pokemon to their collection.

Pokemon GO players who participate in the Lapras Day raids can get five free raid passes, plus they have a chance to find a shiny Lapras, as well as one that knows the exclusive moves Ice Shard and Ice Beam.

Unfortunately for Pokemon GO players who play the game solo, it is not possible to defeat Lapras alone, but it is possible to beat Lapras with at least two or more players. To beat Lapras with two players, Pokemon GO players will need a full team of Machamps with Counter and Dynamic Punch. The Machamps will also need to have high CP and the Pokemon GO players will likely need to be level 40. On top of all that, they will also need to a Cloudy weather boost.

Pokemon GO players with more than two people available to participate in the raid will still want a strong team of Pokemon to beat Lapras, so here are all the best Lapras raid counters in the game.

  • Electivire - Thunder Shock/Wild Charge
  • Machamp - Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Magnezone - Spark/Wild Charge
  • Raikou - Thunder Shock/Wild Charge
  • Rampardos - Smack Down/Rock Slide
  • Roserade - Razor Leaf/Grass Knot
  • Zapdos - Thunder Shock/Thunderbolt

As can be seen from the list of best Lapras counters in Pokemon GO, most of the Pokemon that are best at defeating Lapras are Gen 4 Pokemon. Otherwise, players will want to load up their party with the legendary Pokemon Raikou and Zapdos.

A few of the Gen 4 Pokemon that are best at beating Lapras in raids require Sinnoh Stones to evolve in addition to candy. Since getting Sinnoh Stones in Pokemon GO can be a bit difficult at times, it's possible that Pokemon GO players will have to sub-in other Pokemon on their team. With enough people, though, Pokemon GO players shouldn't have too much trouble with Lapras Day raids.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
