It may seem like it just started, but it's already almost time for the Season of Celebration to come to an end. The first themed season in Pokemon GO has been a big success and Niantic is closing out this window of time with one last Kanto-themed Raid Day event.

Players have had a ton of chances to encounter Gen 1 Pokemon throughout the Season of Celebration and this weekend's PoGO Tour Kanto is sure to help fill in any empty spots in the Pokedex that are still eluding players. After that event wraps up, the last weekend of February in Pokemon GO is going to celebrate Pokemon Day and close out the season on Sunday the 28th with a Raid event full of exciting features.

The short Kanto Raid Day event will obviously feature Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres; but those aren't the only things to be excited about. It sounds like Giovanni will be appearing as well and comes bearing an exciting potential Shadow Legendary encounter reward for players to earn...

Event Date and Time

Sunday, February 28, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time

Features

Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will be appearing in five-star raids! If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Articuno, Shiny Zapdos, or Shiny Moltres!

We’re hearing reports that Giovanni will be returning with a different Shadow Legendary Pokémon in his clutches. Get ready to complete some new Team GO Rocket Special Research to save this Pokémon, Trainers!

Pick up a bundle of three Remote Raid Passes in the shop starting on Saturday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time to Monday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.

Earn up to five free Raid Passes by spinning Photo Discs at PokéStops or Gyms during event hours.

During the event period, you can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.

Team GO Rocket Grunts will be appearing more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons throughout the event window.

That should be everything there is to know about the event, but keep an eye out for any additional information that might drop closer to the event's start time. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

The event only spans three hours, so players will want to have their Raid Passes and counter rosters ready to go as things kick off. Be sure to revisit the best counters for the three Kanto Legendaries to help speed things up and avoid any wasted Raid Passes when the big day arrives.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
