Towards the beginning of the month, Pokemon GO developer Niantic confirmed that it would be hosting some sort of Generation 1 related event sometime during April. Although details were scant, many Pokemon GO players were delighted at the possibility of some sort of event that allows them to properly celebrate the likes of Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and other characters from the Kanto region.

Earlier today, additional details about the Pokemon GO Kanto event trickled out today after the festivities kicked off in Japan, but now Niantic has laid things out for players in the United States. Niantic says that the recent appearance of Mew has attracted many other Pokemon from the Kanto region too.

From April 10 at 1PM PDT until April 17, players will see Kanto region Pokemon "more frequently," which Niantic describing it as the "perfect opportunity" to collect a gold Kanto medal. Moreover, as players encounter and catch these Kanto region Pokemon, players will be rewarded with double candy for "all actions" meaning that players could rack up some massive rewards.

Niantic also confirms that Pokemon GO players will see Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Snorlax in Raid Battles and there will be "special boxes" containing Raid Passes too. Unfortunately, Niantic has not detailed the cost of these special boxes of Raid Passes but if priced reasonably, they should provide players with a good way to get into these Raid Battles, catch these Pokemon and bag themselves those double candy rewards too.

There's a lot going on in Pokemon GO at the moment and there are plenty of reasons for players to jump back into the game. For example, the game recently introduced Field Research quests with lucrative rewards and Pokemon GO players have confirmed that shiny Pokemon may spawn during these Field Research quest encounters too.

Additionally, Niantic continues to host community day events and later this month it will be hosting a Pokemon GO Earth Day Clean Up event in an effort to get players to tidy up the planet. They come with their own rewards and so if increase Kanto spawns and double candy don't suit players, then the rewards from these other events just might.

These events are all a decent stop-gap, though many Pokemon GO players will be wondering when the game's next major updates are arriving. Fans are very much still interested in PvP battles and trading and Niantic has also teased the addition of new social features too. No word on when these will all arrive, but in the meantime, events like the Kanto celebration will have to suffice.
