It's time for players to take a short break from Field and Special Research and get ready for the latest event to take place in the mobile AR game. Niantic announced a Kanto Region event for Pokemon GO that is scheduled to start today, but up until now the details have remained mysteriously secret. Now that the event is live in Japan, the facts are starting to become more clear.

As expected, it sounds like a major part of the event will focus on an increased spawn rate of iconic monsters from Pokemon GO's first generation. The event description specifically calls out the game's starters; Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur; as having increased spawns during the event.

The Kanto event is scheduled to take place from April 1o or 11-April 18. In addition to the higher starter spawn rates, the event will also feature some other exciting bonuses and changes.

To switch things up in Battle Raids, Snorlax and Aerodactyl will both appear as bosses. Snorlax is still still a coveted monsters thanks to his strong defending abilities and players are sure to jump at the chance to add a few more of those to their collection. To help encourage raid participation, there will also be special boxes available in the store that contain raid passes. We don't have the details on how much those will cost just yet.

The event will also offer players double candy for catching and transferring pokemon. That's not quite as exciting as bonus stardust, but it's certainly better than nothing. Stocking up on all of that starter candy will be a nice perk.

We'll post more details when the event fires off in the US, so be sure to check back for more details.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
