Niantic introduced Mega Evolution to Pokemon GO some time ago now, but despite the update, Pokemon from Kalos (where Mega Evolution originated) have remained largely absent from the mobile game. Until today, that is.

Pokemon GO is finally allowing entry to Kalos natives as of its most recent update and event, the Kalos Celebration. As such, from December 2, 2020 at 10 AM, until December 8, 2020 10 PM (local time), Pokemon Trainers will be able to take part in the Kalos Celebration event for an easier chance at meeting all of the game's new Kalosian arrivals.

Niantic originally began teasing the event with a cryptic series of tweets featuring a mysterious Raid Boss egg. After some time, players found out the mystery in question concerned Espurr, the Psychic-type Pokemon found in Kalos. This announcement marked the official revelation of Pokemon GO's Kalos Celebration event, which was subsequently showcased by Niantic.

The new Pokemon GO event is already underway, and for the most part, simply highlights the features that are being added with the update. That is to say, Pokemon Trainers will enjoy one of two things during the Kalos Celebration: new Pokemon encounters throughout the game, and special event-exclusive Field and Timed Research tasks.

There aren't an overwhelming number of Kalosian Pokemon arriving with the update, so at the very least, players should have a fair chance at meeting the entire spread before any additional new Pokemon get added. The Pokemon from Kalos will be appearing in Pokemon GO in three different forms, as is expected. See below for a breakdown:

Eggs

  • 2 km | Bunnelby, Fletchling, Litleo
  • 5 km | Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie
  • 10 km | Espurr, Noibat

Raids

  • 1* | Espurr, Litleo

Wild

  • Bunnelby
  • Chespin
  • Fennekin
  • Fletchling
  • Froakie
  • Klefki*
  • Litleo
  • Noibat

Research

  • Bunnelby
  • Fletchling

* Note: Kleflki is a Regional Pokemon exclusive to France.

Unfortunately for Pokemon veterans, this event doesn't offer any passive bonuses like double XP or catch Candy, but for those looking to rapidly fill the Pokedex, it offers a casual intro to the game's newest arrivals. Players should also note that although the majority of these Pokemon will remain in the wild/Eggs upon conclusion of the event, Niantic's announcement is eerily silent regarding Espurr and Litleo Raid Eggs, which is to say: Espurr and Litleo might leave one-star Raid Battles after the Kalos Celebration.

Aside from Klefki, which are only available in France, these new Pokemon should be popping up more frequently for players across the globe. Given the game's frequent updates and additions, it would probably make sense to register these newcomers quickly before their spawn rates return to normal, and they become a bit more elusive.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
