Pokemon GO has a brand new kind of event that's never been seen before. While all previous events (like Community Days and the upcoming Halloween event) have been free, Niantic has announced its first ever paid event called the Colossal Discovery Special Research.

So what is the Colossal Discovery and how do players get in on the fun? Here's a guide to playing in the newest GO event.

How to Play

Unlike many special events, A Colossal Discovery will be a global event, so anyone from any location can play along. Players will have to purchase "A Colossal Discovery" ticket for $7.99 USD (or the equivalent in other currencies). To buy a ticket, trainers will have to wait for the event to go live (Niantic should be announcing the launch of the event soon on social media), then purchase their tickets before Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 5:00 p.m local time.

To buy a ticket, players will need to click on the "Colossal Discovery" button in the shop, then the "Learn More" button. Click "Purchase" and complete the transaction with the chosen payment method. For this event, players will not be able to use PokéCoins and it will cost real money, and it is also non-refundable. Once the transaction is complete, a pop up should appear. Click "Okay" and the event ticket will appear in a player's item bag.

Legendary titans Pokemon GO

Once the event begins between 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m local time on Saturday, November 2, 2019, players will get a unique quest line for the Colossal Discovery. Players will need to open the Pokemon GO app between those times to trigger the Special Research for the event.

What Does a Ticket Get Players?

For $7.99 USD, what will players get? First, they will receive a couple of high-end items. A Unova Stone, a Sinnoh Stone, a Colossal Discovery medal, and an exclusive avatar pose are the rewards for paying for the event. Players will also get 10 free Raid Passes (one at a time) during the Special Research story event. But the most important thing players will get is early access to a brand new pocket monster.

The Colossal Discovery ticket will open up the raid for an early-access encounter with Regigigas, a Normal-type Legendary Pokemon from Generation IV. New to Pokemon GO, this will be the first time trainers will get to battle this particular Pokemon. Those willing to shell out the money to get him early won't be alone for long though; Regigigas will drop for everyone in November, about a month later.

The Colossal Discovery event has certainly gotten the community talking. Check out the video below for more information on what will be available during the event:
