When Pokemon GO added Gen 4 Pokemon to the game, it included evolved forms of previous Pokemon. However, Niantic decided to make it harder for players to get these Gen 4 evolutions by introducing a new stone to the game called the Sinnoh Stone. Players who were saving candy to evolve specific Pokemon may be frustrated by this, but at least Niantic has added more ways to get Sinnoh Stones since their introduction to the popular mobile game.

At the time of this writing, there are two ways that Pokemon GO players can get Sinnoh Stones. One of these methods involves battling, whereas the other involves completing Field Research tasks. Unfortunately, neither method actually guarantees that a Pokemon GO player will be rewarded with a Sinnoh Stone, so players will want to be sure to do both as much as possible.

It's also worth pointing out that Niantic has sometimes given Pokemon GO players the chance to get Sinnoh Stones by battling team leaders on Community Day. It's unclear if this will be available for all Community Day events moving forward, but if so, Pokemon GO players will have a better shot at earning Sinnoh Stones.

How to Get Sinnoh Stones

The first way to get Sinnoh Stones in Pokemon GO is by battling. Pokemon GO players can battle the team leaders once per day for a shot at a Sinnoh Stone, and they can battle other trainers three times per day for a chance at a Sinnoh Stone. To do these battles, click on the Nearby Pokemon tab in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Then select Battle and pick a leader to fight.

The other way Pokemon GO players can get Sinnoh Stones is through the Field Research breakthrough box. After Pokemon GO players have completed seven days worth of Field Research tasks, they will be rewarded with a box that will included a legendary Pokemon as well as some other rewards. There is a chance that the box will contain a Sinnoh Stone, but again, we must stress that it's not guaranteed.
