Pokemon GO players are bouncing from one event to the next currently and now that Lotad Day is all finished, it is time to start preparing for April Fool's. Although the April Fool's Day celebrations are a little different than usual events that feature special spawns or catch bonuses, there will be the chance to add a new shiny to collections during the special event window.

Niantic recently revealed that Ash Ketchum will be photobombing Pokemon GO in celebration of April Fool's Day. The opportunity to get some of those photos may be enough motivation to participate for some trainers, but the completionists out there will be happy to learn that the event is also adding a Shiny Ash Hat Pikachu to the list of available shiny creatures available in Pokemon GO.

The initial announcement didn't mention this added bonus at all, but users on Reddit (in time zones where April 1 has already arrived) have started sharing photos of the new shiny that they were rewarded with after finding an Ash photobomb. At this point, a lot of details about how many of these can actually be encountered throughout the event are still unclear. The theory is that five photobombs can take place per day and the event will likely span one full week. That offers a decent amount of opportunities to attempt to encounter the shiny hat-wearing Pikachu, but this may still be a fairly rare shiny considering the limitations and luck involved.

Ash Ketchum won’t appear in Pokemon GO until midnight on April 1, local time, when April Fool's Day officially starts. We know about the Ash Ketchum photobomb thanks to Pokemon GO players living in different time zones where it’s already April 1, and the rest of the world should expect to see him when it’s April 1 for them.

Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.

We’ll continue to post updates as additional shiny Pokemon are added in the future. Be sure to check back for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
