Pokemon GO, Niantic's trend-setting Augmented Reality catch-em-up, has been out for a few years now, and still maintains a respectable player count. The success of the game is partly down to its unique design, and partly to the stream of updates and new features that have been added since launch. Pokemon GO now is certainly not the game it was back in 2016, and more updates are coming all the time.

The latest addition to the game's Pokedex is actually a crossover from the latest titles on the more traditional side of the series. Pokemon Sword and Shield, released on November 15, are set in the British-inspired Galar region and as such come with a smattering of new British-themed Pokemon variants. One of these is Galarian Weezing, a rather dapper take on the familiar Poison Pokemon with a Victorian top-hat/chimney stack, which has now made its way into Pokemon GO.

Hold Your Breath

Unlike the original Weezing, Galarian Weezing is actually a dual-type Poison/Fairy, which makes countering its Raid in Pokemon GO a little more complicated. With moves at its disposal dealing Poison, Normal, Fairy and Fire damage, bringing the right Pokemon for the job is essential, but anything that can deal Steel, Ground or Psychic damage will do well against Galarian Weezing.

Here are some examples of solid counters and their recommended movesets, in descending order of effectiveness:

Gallade - Confusion/Psychic

Espeon - Confusion/Psychic

Alakazam - Confusion

Regigigas - Zen Headbutt/Giga Impact

Latias - Zen Headbutt/Psychic

Celebi - Confusion/Psychic

Excadrill - Metal Claw/Drill Run

Latios - Zen Headbutt/Psychic

Dialga - Metal Claw/Iron Head

Jirachi - Confusion/Doom Desire

Pokemon Go Mewtwo

The Best of the Bunch

As the game's premier Psychic Pokemon, Mewtwo is a no-brainer match-up against the vulnerable-to-Psychic Galarian Wheezing. Mewtwo's power should be enough to triumph no matter the moveset, but for players wanting to leave nothing to chance, Psycho Cut/Psychic is the absolute best combo to ensure victory.

Players may have noticed the Steel/Psychic Pokemon Metagross appearing quite often in these Raid counter guides, such as the recent one for Regigigas EX raid. This is partly due to its incredible staying power, and partly due to the effectiveness of the Meteor Mash/Bullet Punch moveset. Although a Zen Headbutt/Psychic Metagross is also feasible against Galarian Weezing, the Steel-based MM/BP combo comes closest to matching the raw power of Mewtwo. Players should be aware however, that although Metagross is resistant to most of Galarian Weezing's moves, the Fire-type Overheat may still take a large chunk of HP.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
