Pokemon GO's Sinnoh Celebration week has arrived, which means players have a chance to revisit their Sinnoh dex and attempt to fill in any blank spaces thanks to increased spawns, unique Egg hatches, and some temporary Battle Raid bosses appearing during the event. Among that list of Raid Bosses is the Legendary Heatran. This is a popular Pokemon in the metagame, but due to its unique dual-typing, players will want to carefully plan their battle roster to make sure they take advantage of one big double weakness.

The Sinnoh Celebration event kicked off on Tuesday and spans through  Sunday, January 17, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time. That means that players have a little less than a week left to take advantage of the current bonuses and head out for some exciting Battle Raids against the Sinnoh Legendary. Be sure to use Remote Raid Passes when necessary to safely conduct Battle Raids and keep an eye out for any special deals in the Pokemon GO in-game store that might offer discounts on Battle Raid Bosses to help drive players to continue raiding throughout the month.

Heatran has a pretty unique dual-typing, which means there are going to be a different interesting weaknesses to account for. First off, players should be aware that Heatran has a ton of resistances. Start out be clearly avoiding these types that it features double resistance against: Bug, Fairy, Grass, Ice, Poison, Steel. Keep all of those on the sideline and instead fill out the roster with Pokemon that are Ground, Fighting, and Water-types. Heatran is double weak to Ground, so that is where players should really focus their efforts if possible.

Best Heatran Counters

Garchomp - Mud Shot/Earthquake

Groudon - Mud Shot/Earthquake

Exadrill - Mud Slap/Drill Run

Rhyperior - Mud Slap/Earthquake

Golurk - Mud Slap/Earth Power

Flygon - Mud Shot/Earth Power

Rhydon - Mud Slap/Earthquake

As, keep in mind that the Battle Raid can still be won even if players don't have the supreme counters listed above. The important things is to just recognize the boss' weakness and stick to that strategy. In the case of Heatran, that means that means identifying the best Ground-type Pokemon available and putting them to good use. It is well worth burning through a some Candy and TMs to get those Pokemon powered up and equipped with solid Ground-type move sets, as well.  Players who follow those steps and stick to a group of 4+ players should have no problems powering through these battles.

As trainers continue working through these amazing Celebration events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update as they count down to the next season, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
