Pokemon GO's annual Halloween event is just around the corner and official details will likely be arriving later this week. Although Niantic hasn't made any announcements official yet, an analysis of the Game Master files reveal that this year the Halloween event has something extra special in store for players.

A datamine of GM files reveals spoiler text for an upcoming Ghost-type themed Special Research. Reading on will reveal some spoilers for the upcoming Pokemon GO story quest, so read on with caution if you would rather be surprised when the content arrives.

Here's a look at the leaked data, shared by Chrales...

The quest text mentions Spiritomb by name, so it seems likely that this Gen 4 Pokemon may be the reward at the end of the Special Research. There seem to only be three steps to this Special Research, which will make it much quicker than the usual Mythical Special Research stories.

Players have been hoping for a non-Mythical use of the Special Research feature since it launched, so this is a great step in evolving the game's mechanics. Hopefully similar Special Research will take place for future events and offer players the chance to complete story quests more than once or twice a year.

Official details about the Halloween event will likely arrive later today or this week, so be sure to check back for more details. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
