Since the recent release of gen-3 Pokémon, many Pokémon GO players may have been excited for the eventual reveal of a gen-3 legendary. Although Hoenn offers plenty of legendaries to choose from, the first gen-3 legendary to appear is Groudon, the legendary ground-type Pokémon!

Concerning the release of Groudon, here’s the Pokémon GO team’s official announcement:

Pokémon GO players have a month to add the newest legendary to their collection, and with the recent and upcoming updates to the game, they have a multitude of new features to assist them. Almost certainly, Groudon will benefit from the new weather system, but players can now craft battle parties. This new feature, although currently in beta, will better help players be prepared for their eventual encounter with Groudon because they can have teams ready based on the weather.

Although it is not officially announced yet, another key update to the game that could better prepare players for Groudon is the new battle UI. Currently, the fast and charge moves are executed by tapping the screen and holding their fingers in place, respectively. This update is supposed to add a button that, once enough energy has been collected, uses the charge attack. However, there is still no official word on when this update could take place, but hopefully, it'll be soon.

The battle with Groudon will most likely be hard fought, so Pokémon GO players may want to use all the newly-available features at their disposal. From new Pokémon and weather updates to battle parties and potential interface updates, developer Niantic seems to have given their players the tools necessary to catch Groudon, adding the newest-released legendary to their collection.

Pokémon GO is available now for Android and iOS in select regions.
