A Pokemon GO player found themselves quite alarmed when a massive face suddenly emerged in their game. The bug has amused the game's community, though it doesn't make it any less baffling.

Pokemon GO has seen its fair share of bugs, though the game is regularly updated in an effort to provide balance and fixes. While this particular bug isn't technically game breaking, in that all the game's features and gameplay possibilities should still be available, it's distracting to say the least.

Reddit user DevilishCowboy shared a screenshot of the game with a giant face looming over the player character. The face not only completely dwarfs the player, but even towers over nearby Pokemon Gyms and PokeStops by a considerable amount. Only the head, eyes, and ears are present, with the hair missing. Considering the scale of the head, it's possible that the rest of the body is actually still there, but normal size, and it may be engulfed by the face and thus not visible.

The post has cracked up many players, with many pointing out similarities and references to the appearance. DevilishCowboy themselves referenced the "Show me what you got" line from Rick and Morty when posting the image, while others pointed out similarities to Silent Hill: The Room, Star Fox's Andross, and even legendary manga artist Junji Ito. Thankfully, the face looks calm, as seeing a giant distorted or angry-looking giant countenance appear would be genuinely alarming to most players.

Some players took the opportunity to poke fun at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which recently released for the Nintendo Switch. While the game has several innovations and changes over prior Pokemon games that should help to make the experience fresh, it's also been riddled with bugs, glitches, and bizarre sights similar to this one. While this particular bug goes back several years in Pokemon GO's history, it's seemingly a rarity, rather than a common experience plaguing nearly all players, as with many of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's issues.

This bug is humorous, and after years of reports popping up of seeing a giant head on Pokemon GO's world map, it doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. Interestingly enough, some prior instances of this bug have shown what appears to be a different face, and at a twisted, creepy angle with misplaced textures. Only time will tell if the bug continues to be present in the game, and if so, whether its appearance changes again.

Pokemon GO is available now for mobile devices.
