Many of the Pokemon series' legendary and mythical Pokemon have been implemented into Pokemon GO. With the Kanto region being from the first generation, players are able to catch every single Pokemon from this region, including the rarer ones.

One of the rarest Kanto Pokemon in Pokemon GO is Mew, the first mythical Pokemon to ever appear. While players can't encounter Mew in the wild normally or fight it in raids, players are still able to get the chance to capture one.

Mew is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon, meaning that it is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type moves. It also resists damage from Fighting and Psychic-type moves.

Updated March 14, 2023: It's been quite some time since Mew has been added to Pokemon GO. While many players are wondering how to get this legendary Pokemon, the method is the same as it's always been. Players will need to complete all steps of the Mythical Discovery Special Research to encounter Mew. This guide on how to get Mew in Pokemon GO has been updated with more recent links, and new images, and our Kanto tour section has been removed since it was a limited-time event.

A Mythical Discovery Special Research Tasks and Rewards

The first series of special research tasks that players can undertake in Pokemon GO is A Mythical Discovery. This line of tasks has players complete a few basic aspects of Pokemon GO before eventually reaching more complicated tasks. What makes this so important, however, is that players will be awarded an encounter with Mew after completing all tasks.

Being special research tasks, players have no time limit when it comes to completing them. The sooner they finish them, however, the sooner they will be able to capture Mew.

Some of the more difficult tasks included within the line of tasks include players needing to catch a Ditto and evolve a Magikarp. Luckily, players are given plenty of other rewards to collect while completing tasks that will help players with catching Pokemon and participating in raids.

Here's a look at all the tasks players will need to get done to capture Mew:
