Pokemon GO is celebrating its first ever Gengar Day today, and that means trainers around the world have a limited time to catch the first ever in-app appearance by Shiny Gengar. The festivities officially began at 11:00AM PT, so Pokemon GO trainers looking to join the festivities should try to do so immediately.

All Gengars caught today (in raids and evolved) will know the attack Psychic and Lick, but it's the shiny variant that everyone will be hungry for. The catch rate for the shiny variant - which many users have confused for the regular variant - is seemingly very high, with many users who partook in the Asia-area raid day today reporting that they collected a Shiny Gengar on their first or second tries.

Players who are at a Pokemon Gym and spin a photo disc will receive five free Raid Passes, allowing them several attempts at capturing their own unique Gengar. Since Gengar is a Tier 4 raid, players shouldn't aim to solo raid. While duo raiding is possible with strong counters, a group of pals is certainly the best way to approach today's ghostly raid and ensure everyone walks out with a special Gengar.

The raids are available in a different three hour window per region. America's raid takes place from 11:00AM - 2:00PM, Asia from 12:00PM - 3:00PM PDT, and Europe, The Middle East, and India from 10:00AM to 1:00PM GMT. Many players in Asia have had connection difficulties during the event, with Niantic promising to resolve this issues soon - though it's unclear if the event time will be extended to make up for lost time.

For the Pokemon GO trainers heading outdoors this Gengar Day, it's not just the moments where the application is open that can bring them benefits: the new Adventure Sync mode is rolling out, allowing many trainers to earn buddy candy and hatch eggs without the application being open. It's a health initiative that is sure to save much battery life around the world, though during Gengar Day we imaging that most hungry trainers will have the app open for most of their time outside today anyway.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
