A post by Pokemon GO's official Twitter account is strongly hinting at the possibility of the Paleozoic Pokemon, Genesect, coming to the game, presumably through one of Pokemon GO's special events. Genesect is a Mythical Pokemon which, as a mechanically enhanced creature with strong resemblance to a large insect, is classified as a Bug/Steel type.

The tweet released by Pokemon GO shows two extremely pointed, triangular footprints in the earth with the text saying that "Something Mythical is coming." Given the usage of the word "Mythical," especially since it's capitalized, it can be presumed that the upcoming addition is a Mythical Pokemon, with Genesect being the only candidate for making the footprints displayed.

This is further evidenced by a discovery made by data miners in late February, when references to a research quest called "A Drive to Investigate" was discovered. This is likely a nod to Genesect's ability to hold various items called Drives, which change the typing of the Pokemon's signature move, Techno Blast. However, data miners also discovered that the "A Drive to Investigate" research quest would need to be purchased, similarly to the event for the Legendary Pokemon Regigigas. Since Regigigas was later released to all players as an EX Raid Pokemon, the same may very well apply to Genesect eventually.

In Pokemon Lore, Genesect is a man-made Pokemon created by the criminal organization, Team Plasma. After reviving an extinct Fossil Pokemon, Team Plasma added metallic pieces and a cannon to the creature's back, turning it into Genesect.

As a Bug/Steel type, Genesect only has one weakness, with the others being canceled out by its dual typing. Being a Bug Pokemon gives it a resistance against Ground and Fighting, which would otherwise be effective against Steel, while Genesect's Steel typing resistances negates Bug's weaknesses to Rock and Flying. However, Genesect's defense has a major flaw, that being its double weakness to Fire-type attacks.

The tweet doesn't offer any further details, so when exactly Genesect would be arriving in Pokemon GO is unknown. When it does, it seems that it will be available in five different forms including its normal appearance, as well as four Drive forms, called Burn, Chill, Douse, and Shock, with each having a different charged attack. The task for Trainers then, isn't just about catching Genesect, but catching all of them.
