Pokemon GO is celebrating its second anniversary in style with a nearly constant stream of events, Legendary Battle Raids, and new Friend and Trading features. As if all of that wasn’t enough cause for excitement, the latest tweet from the official Pokemon GO account may also be hinting an upcoming Gen 4 release.
Although it may feel like the last wave of Gen 3 additions just arrived in Pokemon GO, fans are already looking forward to collection and powering up the next generation of adorable monsters. Niantic hasn’t made any official announcements about Gen 4 just yet, but the inclusion of Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup in this art definitely feels like a hint.
Here’s a look at the tweet and the art in question…

At this point, it’s important to keep in mind that no Gen 4 code has actually been uncovered in the game at this point. Usually the dataminers are able to track down code for new Pokemon weeks, or even months, before they arrive in the game. It’s always possible that Niantic is just getting better at keeping its cards close to the chest, but it’s likely that it’ll be a while before these critters arrive in the game.
When Gen 4 does arrive, the company will likely slowly release groups of new Pokemon over time, rather than one big update all at once. This rollout has worked well for the most recent additions to the game and helps spread out the hype over a longer period of time.
