While there are still some third generation Pokemon that have yet to be added to Pokemon GO, Niantic has added the majority of them to the game, and fans have been patiently waiting for the release of Gen 4. We still have no official word from anyone at Niantic about when the fourth generation of Pokemon will be added to Pokemon GO, there is some evidence that may give fans a general idea of when to expect the next wave of Pokemon to come to the game.

Starting tomorrow, Niantic will be adding the legendary birds Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos back to raid battles as part of its Ultra Bonus reward for fans. Following that, Mewtwo will be added to legendary raids on September 20 at 1:00pm PT, and will stay in raid battles until October 23rd at 1:00pm PT. Mewtwo's exit from raid battles will likely coincide with Pokemon GO's annual Halloween event, which could be the biggest clue as to when the first Gen 4 Pokemon will be added to the game.

Last year, the first Gen 3 Pokemon were added to Pokemon GO during the Halloween event, with Niantic adding various third generation ghost-type Pokemon to the game at that time. Considering this, it's very possible that Niantic will add the first fourth generation Pokemon to Pokemon GO during this year's Halloween event by introducing Drifloon, Drifblim, Mismagius, Spiritomb, Dusknoir, and Froslass.

Of course, this is all just speculation at this time, but based on the way Niantic has added new Pokemon to the game in the past, it's certainly possible. And if Niantic does end up adding Gen 4 Pokemon to Pokemon GO during the annual Halloween event, it stands to reason that more will be added during the winter months, with Niantic slowly filling out the Gen 4 roster over the course of 2019.

October will mark a full year since the first third generation Pokemon were added to Pokemon GO, and it seems unlikely that Niantic would wait much longer to finally add the first fourth generation Pokemon to the popular mobile game. Plus, there has been some evidence in datamines that prove Niantic is at least preparing Gen 4 Pokemon for the game. However, anything is possible, and so fans will just have to wait and see when Gen 4 Pokemon finally make their way to Pokemon GO.
