Now that the majority of third generation Pokemon are available to catch in Pokemon GO, some fans are already looking to the future of the popular mobile game. The next logical step for Niantic is to introduce fourth generation Pokemon to the experience, and while we aren't quite sure when that will happen, fans can still prepare for future Gen 4 Pokemon evolutions by catching the right monsters now.

At this point, we aren't sure what special requirements Gen 4 Pokemon in Pokemon GO may require in order to evolve, but it is a sure bet that they will at least require a certain number of candy. The candy count will likely be 50 or 100 depending on certain factors, though it's possible some Pokemon will be like Magikarp and require 400 candy.

Additionally, some Pokemon may require evolution stones to evolve. Or as we've seen with some Gen 3 Pokemon, they may require players to walk a certain distance with that Pokemon as their buddy before they can evolve it with candy.

With that in mind, here are the upcoming Gen 4 Pokemon evolutions Pokemon GO trainers should keep in mind.

Gen 1

For gen 1 Pokemon, players need to keep in mind that Eevee will likely require 25 candy to evolve again, and that there will almost certainly be a trick to control its evolution. Considering this, those wanting Eevee to evolve into a Leafeon or Glaceon will want to wait until fans discover how to control its Gen 4 evolutions.

  • Eevee to Glaceon
  • Eevee to Leafeon
  • Electabuzz to Electivire
  • Lickitung to Lickilicky
  • Magmar to Magmortar
  • Magneton to Magnezone
  • Rhydon to Rhyperior
  • Tangela to Tangrowth

Gen 2

Pokemon GO: Prepare for These Gen 4 Pokemon Evolutions - Murkrow

More Gen 2 Pokemon evolve into Gen 4 Pokemon than any other generation. Gen 2 Pokemon have been in the game for about a year at this point, though, so fans should have had plenty of opportunities to add as many of them to their collection as possible.

  • Aipom to Ambipom
  • Gligar to Gliscor
  • Misdreavus to Mismagius
  • Murkrow to Honchkrow
  • Piloswine to Mamoswine
  • Porygon 2 to Porygon-Z
  • Sneasel to Weavile
  • Togetic to Togekiss
  • Yanma to Yanmega

Gen 3

Finally, there are some third generation Pokemon players will want to make sure they're catching in preparation for Gen 4.

  • Dusclops to Dusknoir
  • Kirlia (Male) to Gallade
  • Nosepass to Probopass
  • Roselia to Roserade
  • Snorunt (Female) to Frosglass

While the wait for Gen 4 Pokemon in Pokemon GO will likely be a long one, at least players can be properly prepared. By keeping the Pokemon on these lists in mind, it should be a lot easier for Pokemon trainers to fill out their Pokedex and catch 'em all.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
