Update 7/11/2019: Niantic has added a lot more Gen 4 Pokemon to Pokemon GO. Here is an updated list of missing Gen 4 Pokemon in the game.

After months of waiting, fourth generation Pokemon have finally been added to Pokemon GO. So far, Niantic has released two waves of Gen 4 Pokemon, a little over 20 with the initial launch and then six more as part of the game's Halloween 2018 event. The Gen 4 Pokemon that have been added to Pokemon GO so far just scratch the surface of all the fourth generation Pokemon that will eventually come to the game, however.

Gen 4 is unique in that there are many Pokemon that are baby forms or evolutions to Pokemon that already exist. In fact, there's quite a few first generation Pokemon that get new evolutions a part of Gen 4, though the new evolutions haven't been added to the game at the time of this writing.

Gen 4 also features a slew of new legendary and mythical Pokemon, adding more than any other generation besides Gen 1. As it turns out, the first Gen 4 legendary Pokemon has already been added to the game in the form of Giratina, a dragon/ghost-type Pokemon that recently replaced Mewtwo in legendary raids as part of the game's Halloween event. One has to imagine that after Giratina is removed from legendary raids in late November, it will be replaced by Dialga, Palkia, or one of the other Gen 4 legendary Pokemon, though that's just speculation at this time.

The rest of the Gen 4 Pokemon will be added to Pokemon GO in waves. Players can look forward to them either appearing in the wild, hatching out of eggs, starring in raids, or being featured as part of Special Research quests. Regardless of how they're added to the game, though, it's clear that Pokemon GO players have a lot of Gen 4 Pokemon to look forward to catching.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
