Niantic surprised Pokemon GO fans last night with the rollout of some new Gen 4 evolutions and Pokemon. In total, there were 14 new Gen 4 Pokemon added to Pokemon GO with the latest update, and here is the complete list:

  • Cranidos (Pokedex #408)
  • Rampardos (Pokedex #409)
  • Shieldon (Pokedex #410)
  • Bastiodon (Pokedex #411)
  • Combee (Pokedex #415)
  • Vespiqueen (Pokedex #416)
  • Ambipom (Pokedex #424)
  • Glameow (Pokedex #431)
  • Purugly (Pokedex #432)
  • Lickilicky (Pokedex #463)
  • Tangrowth (Pokedex #465)
  • Yanmega (Pokedex #469)
  • Gallade (Pokedex #475)
  • Froslass (Pokedex #478)

Out of the February 2019 rollout for new Gen 4 Pokemon in Pokemon GO, Ambipom, Froslass, Gallade, Lickilicky, Tangrowth, and Yanmega are all evolutions of Pokemon from previous generations. This means that players not only need enough candy to evolve their Pokemon into these new forms, but they also need to get their hands on a Sinnoh Stone, which is fairly rare, and will likely keep some players from getting all of the new Gen 4 evolutions right off the bat.

There are multiple ways Pokemon GO players can get a Sinnoh Stone in the popular mobile game. Primarily, they can be a reward through PvP trainer battles and earned through spinning PokeStops like other evolution stones. The upcoming Swinub Community Day event will give players the chance to add five Sinnoh Stones to their collection by participating in PvP trainer battles, which should go a long way in helping fans complete their Gen 4 Pokedex in Pokemon GO.

The Swinub Community Day in Pokemon GO is set to kick off on February 16 at 11am PST. Like past Community Day events, it will give players the chance to add a shiny Swinub to their collection. But perhaps more importantly, it will also mark the first time players can get their hands on a Mamoswine, the fully-evolved form of Swinub. Of course, this will require a Sinnoh Stone as well, so players may want to reserve the Sinnoh Stones they earn that day to complete their shiny Swinub family.

Considering how important Sinnoh Stones are to fully completing one's Gen 4 Pokedex, hopefully Niantic adds easier ways to get them in the future. In the meantime, Pokemon GO fans have a fresh batch of Gen 4 Pokemon to catch out in the wild that should keep them busy until then.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
