As soon as Niantic kicked off the Pokemon GO Halloween event earlier this week, players quickly hit the streets to capture the five new Generation 3 Pokemon, clearly excited about the opportunity to catch new creatures for the first time in several months. During that time, the developers also refreshed the game's code to include up-to-date move sets and base catch rates for each of the new Pokemon. A user in the Pokemon GO fan community The Silph Road posted these statistics to Reddit shortly after they hit the game, giving players insight into how easily each Pokemon can be captured.

Sableye, the dual-type Dark/Ghost Pokemon with razor-sharp teeth and big gemstone eyes, has a base capture rate of 20 percent and a base flee rate of 7 percent. The mummy-like Ghost type Dusclops and the marionette doll Pokemon Banette have the same base capture and flee rates as Sableye.

The remaining two Generation 3 Pokemon will be easier to capture, but also have a higher chance of fleeing before players can add them to their Pokedex. Both Shuppet, the nocturnal Ghost type that evolves into Banette, and Duskull, the Pokemon known for its Grim Reaper-like appearance, have a base capture rate of 40 percent and a base flee rate of 10 percent.

An interesting fact to take into consideration when participating in the Halloween event is that the spawn rates for the Generation 3 Pokemon are not the same throughout the day. Players have reported that two Generation 3 Ghost types only spawn at night in certain areas, or spawn more frequently during the evening hours, before 9 a.m. local time. This could just be a glitch in the system, although it seems far more likely that it was a deliberate choice made by the Pokemon GO developers to encourage players to get into the spooky spirit and embark on nighttime quests.

While the introduction of Generation 3 Pokemon to Pokemon GO is undoubtedly exciting, it isn't the only aspect players have to look forward to. Those participating in the game's limited-time event can capitalize on the "Double Candy" perk that makes evolutions much easier, or capture a witch hat Pikachu and matching Halloween-styled Pichu, and even catch a rare shiny Sableye if they're extremely lucky.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
