When it comes to Pokemon GO, catching them all is just part of the challenge. Players can fill out their Pokedexes as they discover and catch new creatures all over the world, but there's also unlockable medals that have specific requirements.

In fact, some of these requirements may be a little too specific. Users are calling attention to two of the longest-standing earnable medals in Pokemon GO and pointing out their problems with some offered solutions.

In Pokemon GO, players are rewarded for select achievements with a variety of medals. These medals typically offer multiple ranks to unlock, starting with Bronze and ending with Platinum. For example, with the Fisher and Youngster medals, players are expected to discover a number of large Magikarp and tiny Rattata, respectively. The medals are a callback to common Pokemon trainer types found throughout the games.

These medals were introduced early in Pokemon GO's life, and fans argue that they're showing their age and are too difficult. When Pokemon GO was first making waves, Magikarp and Rattata joined the game as first-gen Pokemon, meaning that there were quite a number of them around. While finding very large Magikarp and tiny Rattata wasn't necessarily the easiest thing, the sheer quantity of these two Pokemon available made it possible. However, there are now numerous newer Pokemon in the game, and as a result, seeing spawns of these two have become rarer.

Unfortunately, the issue here lies with the specific terms of unlocking the medals. Both the Fisher and Youngster Pokemon GO medals task players with catching over 1,000 of each of these Pokemon, and they have to meet strict guidelines. The Magikarp must be over 1 meter in size, while Rattata have to be under 1kg to qualify. This would be a time-consuming endeavor early on the game's history, but now many argue that it's downright impossible.

Redditor and Pokemon GO fan Cerborealis had some ideas to offer that would make it much more feasible to unlock these medals to platinum. They recommended adding additional typically-small fish Pokemon to those qualifying towards the Fisher medal, like Feebas and Wishiwashi. Youngster, on the other hand, could include other small rodent Pokemon like Sentret. With additions like these, the medals would definitely still pose a challenge and time investment, but would be more accessible for those who rarely see Magikarp or Rattata around.

While earning Pokemon GO medals doesn't have a huge impact on the game, completionists and latecomers to Pokemon GO may have been frustrated by the difficulty unlocking these medals. With any luck, Niantic is open to suggestions that could help to get these basic medals completed so users can focus on more interesting elements of the game.

Pokemon GO is available now for mobile devices.
