Ever since its initial release in the summer of 2016, Pokemon GO has remained one of the most popular mobile games out there, allowing players and Pokemon fans of all ages to go out and explore the real world for the creatures, or even find Pokemon from the comfort of their home. After a bit of a slow start, the mobile game began to receive regular updates, with new features, Pokemon, and events being added to it constantly.

For almost four years, Pokemon GO players could grind for XP until they reached level 40, at which they would keep gaining XP, but could no longer level up. Players quickly realized that while it is fairly easy to gain levels when first starting out in the game, levels 30 to 40 became a slog. However, back in November of 2020, Pokemon GO announced that the game would be raising its level cap form 40 to 50 and adding new ways for players to gain XP in the following month, and it appears that one players has already become the first in the world to reach the newest level cap.

Over on Twitter earlier today, dedicated Australian Pokemon GO player FleeceKing posted screenshots showing that he had reached level 50 in Pokemon GO while streaming it live on Twitch. In the tweet, FleeceKing posted a screenshot of the level up screen along with the level 50 rewards, as well as a screenshot of his trainer profile, displaying his level 50 account, showing that he has gained a total of 699,847,622 XP.

Just minutes after FleeceKing had reached level 50 in Pokemon GO, Lauren Bertoni, another Australian player, also managed to hit level 50. As a reward for reaching level 50, the players received a variety of in-game items as well as 2 variations of an exclusive level 50 jacket, and in order to get to level 50, the players had to make 999 Excellent throws, catch a Legendary Pokemon in their next 5 Legendary Pokemon encounters, and defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader 3 times only using Pokemon with 2,500 CP or less. The swift completion of these difficult tasks serve as a testament to the skill and dedication of both FleeceKing and Bertoni.

Before reaching level 50, FleeceKing had hit level 48 just one day prior and managed to get to level 49 rather quickly due to compensation for a glitch in Pokemon GO that failed to track his progress towards the next level. To hit level 50, the dedicated Pokemon GO player pulled an all-nighter with his mother, accompanied by "coffees, music, and determination."

For quite some time now, FleeceKing has been regarded within the Pokemon GO community as one of the game's most dedicated players, so it may come as no surprise to some that he managed to become the first player in the world to celebrate such a monumental achievement. And now that players have already managed to blow the roof of the level 50 cap, it will be interesting to see whether Pokemon GO decides to increase the level cap again any time soon.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
