The Mountains of Power event is currently live in Pokemon GO and fans of the mobile AR game have the next few weeks to enjoy a long list of bonuses, features, special Battle Raid bosses, and other activities. In addition to all of that, the event also features the debut of a brand new shiny.

Shiny spawns are an incredibly popular feature in Pokemon GO and some collectors even have personal goals of completing a full shiny dex. Any time a new shiny debuts it is cause for a surge in player activity and this event offers one of those opportunities. For the first time, Slugma has the chance to spawn as a shiny variant and regular spawns are increased thanks to the Mountains of Power features. That should leave players with a great opportunity to add two new shiny Pokemon to their collections this week (Slugma and its evolved form - Magcargo).

Shiny Slugma will be sticking around even after the Mountains of Power event comes to a close, but players who really want to pick up the shiny should probably focus on the grind sooner than later. The Mountains of Power activities wrap up on January 13, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of time left to enjoy the increase in cave dwelling wild encounters.

Where to find Shiny Slugma (during and after Mountains of Power)

During the Mountains of Power event, shiny Slugma is available from Wild Encounters and Field Research tasks.

After the event, shiny Slugma will remain available.

Note that, at this point, the community does not know how much the shiny rate for Shiny Slugma spawns will decrease after the Mountains of Power event concludes. If the debut is anything like previous ones, trainers will have a much higher chance of finding the shiny during the event than after, so now is the time for collectors to head out and grind.

Cave Dwelling spawns will return to their normal rates and locations after the event concludes, so it will certainly be possible for trainers to find a shiny Slugma at that point, but it will require a lot more work. Whether or not Slugma encounters will remain a Field Research reward will also likely vary from month to month, so trainers shouldn't rely on that option sticking around for long either.

Players should learn much more about exact details of other activities throughout the early days of the Season of Heritage. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
