Starter Pokemon can be currently found everywhere in Pokemon GO thanks to the anniversary event celebrating the game's fifth year online. This makes it pretty easy for players to collect all of the currently implemented starter Pokemon as well as gather enough candy to evolve them all. One of these Pokemon is the Sinnoh region's Chimchar.

Unlike many of the other starter Pokemon in Pokemon GO, Chimchar is unable to be found among the increased overworld spawns during the anniversary event. It however can still be easily found by players who know what to do.

By catching Chimchar, players can evolve it into Monferno via 25 Chimchar candies. Monferno can then be evolved into the line's final evolution, Infernape, with 100 more Chimchar candies. Infernape is a dual Fire and Fighting-type Pokemon, making it weak to Flying, Ground, Psychic, and Water-type moves. However, it also resists damage from Steel, Grass, Ice, Dark, Fire, and Bug-type moves.

Pokemon Chimchar

The main way of getting Chimchar to spawn during the anniversary event is through the usage of lures. They can be directly purchased from Pokemon GO's in-game store or earned via various research tasks. By using a normal lure on any PokeStop, Chimchar will be able to spawn for players that are searching for it.

While lures will help players find Chimchar, there are other starter Pokemon that are also exclusive to lure spawning that will likely appear as well. These Pokemon are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Turtwig, Piplup, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. There are additionally no special lure modules that help find Fire-type Pokemon, requiring players to rely on normal lures only. Thankfully, each lure lasts an hour during this event, giving players plenty of time to stay by the PokeStop and capture whatever is attracted to the lure.

The other method of obtaining Chimchar through this event is by completing a specific event field research task. This task can be gotten by spinning any PokeStop, but players may need to spin multiple PokeStops to find the specific task they need. The one players need is called "Make five Great Throws". Completing it will reward players with an encounter with either Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. There is no way to choose which Pokemon will be encountered through this task.

Catching Chimchar is still worth it for players that already have one due to Chimchar being needed for the anniversary event's Collection Challenge. Completing this Collection Challenge will award players with a Flying Pikachu encounter, 80 Pokeballs, and three Rare Candies.
