Starting at 10am today (July 6), Pokemon GO is officially celebrating its fifth birthday. The mobile AR game has done a ton of growing since its launch and that crazy original summer. To help celebrate the occasion, there is a massive event underway that is offering a ton of special features, bonuses, and activities for trainers to enjoy between now and July 15.

The event will offer Pokemon GO players the chance to encounter some very cool Pokemon thanks to special spawns and unique event Battle Raids, but those aren't the only activities and encounter rewards up for grabs. Like most other in-game events, the fifth anniversary of Pokemon GO also hands a handful of limited time Field Research tasks that players can pick up to earn their daily stamps and unlock encounter and item rewards.

The event includes seven confirmed Field Research tasks and many of them offer the chance to earn encounters with one of the starter Pokemon from the first six generations of the franchise. That means that each of the quests (aside from the one that grants item rewards) has three possible encounters that could trigger after completion. Depending on their goals, trainers may want to search around their local areas Pokestops to find the quests that offer what they are looking for...

All Fifth Anniversary Field Research

Catch 5 Pokémon  - Bulbasaur /Charmander/Squirtle

Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon  -  Chikorita /Cyndaquil /Totodile

Take 5 snapshots of wild Pokémon - Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip

Make 5 Great Throws - Turtwig/Chimchar/Piplup

Send 5 Gifts - Snivy/Tepig/Oshawott

Spin 5 PokéStop or Gyms - Chespin/Fennekin/Froakie

Earn 2 Candies walking with your buddy - Poke Ball Poke Ball *8/Razz Berry Razz Berry *4

The Field Research should be available until the event concludes on July 15, which gives players plenty of time to earn a ton of extra starter Pokemon Candy and encounters. Although the final evolutions of starter Pokemon no longer rule the PvE metagame in PoGO, they are quite powerful in certain PvP leagues and many are just fan favorites. That combination should help this Field Research become quite popular and many players will likely be spinning Pokestops to pick up quests long after they've finished earning their daily stamp between now and the end of the event.

The Field Research is just one of many features for the fifth anniversary event, so be sure to check out the other guides to prepare for all of this week's activities. There are a lot of great rewards up for grabs, so trainers won't want to miss out.

In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the rest of the Season of Discovery. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
