With the latest addition of Field and Special Research quests to Pokémon GO, fans of the mobile augmented reality game may very well be diving into the multitude of Field Research quests. While each of these quests is unique, there are peculiarities to these quests that knowing ahead of time can help any trainer.

First, it’s important to know that Research Tasks are tied to a specific PokéStop each day, resetting at midnight local time. These Pokéstops give out the same quest to every player each day, and Trainers cannot complete the exact same quest twice. One reward of this latest addition to Pokémon GO is a Field Research encounter where players catch a level 15 Pokémon with the same minimum IV values as raid bosses or egg hatches.

Concerning these special encounters, it is worth noting that these Pokémon cannot be boosted by the weather, but they can be shiny. Also, Pokémon caught this way do not have a location on the Pokédex. Moreover, hatching a Pokémon doesn’t count toward a quest that requires players to catch a Pokémon, but catching the evolution of a specific Pokémon does count toward quests that require a specific Pokémon.

While doing quests that require players to grind Pokéball throws, it helps to know that the throw counts regardless of how the encounter ends. Multiple throws that don't catch the Pokémon still add to the required number of throws. Additionally, higher-rated throws count for lower-tier throws, meaning that "excellent" throws count as "great" and "nice" throws.

For quests related to raids, it’s important to note that wiping or timing out in a raid still counts as participation, which means players can complete multiple raid-related Research quests with only one raid pass. Battling in a gym is not the same thing as completing a raid, but actions can count toward multiple tasks. It is even possible to have duplicate tasks, making it even easier for the player to get stamps.

Speaking of stamps, players can delay claiming the rewards of a Research quest, which allows the player to get a future day stamp after midnight. Lastly, players can’t get a new Research task from a Pokestop if their bag is full, new Field Research missions can only come from Pokestops, not Gyms, and completing a Special Research task does not count for a Field Research stamp (although it does lead to Mew.)

While this may seem like a lot, it's nothing that the Pokémon GO community can't handle. Good luck out there, Trainers and Researchers!
