The latest Pokemon GO event kicks off tomorrow, inviting players to celebrate the Festival of Lights from November 5th to November 14th. Niantic's ARPG has maintained a strong fanbase ever since its 2016 release, and part of the reason for that is a packed calendar of events that help to keep the game fresh and interesting. Pokemon GO events often introduce new Pokemon from the massive franchise, as well as new items and missions.

The Festival of Lights follows closely on the heels of Pokemon GO's Halloween 2021 event. Like Halloween, the new celebration will increase spawn rates for certain Pokemon, as well as offer new Special Research Tasks and a free item. However, the Festival of Lights is also introducing a brand new Pokemon to Pokemon GO, the electric mouse Dedenne.

Festival of Lights Main Event in Pokemon GO

The most exciting aspect of the Festival of Lights event will undoubtedly be the introduction of Dedenne, the Antenna Pokemon. Dedenne is a sixth generation Pokemon, entering the franchise in Pokemon X and Y back in 2013. Although the Antenna Pokemon bears a striking resemblance to Pokemon's mascot Pikachu, it's actually an Electric/Fairy-type, and has no other evolutions. Like Pikachu, Dedenne generates electricity from the distinctive red spots on its cheeks.

Dedenne will be appearing in the Wild as a Field Research Encounter and in one-star Pokemon GO Raids during the Festival of Light event. In addition, many other Electric and Fire Pokemon will have their spawn rates increased for the duration. These spawns can be seen below.

Festival of Lights Bonuses in Pokemon GO

On top of the increased Pokemon spawns, there'll also be several other little bonuses for players during the Festival of Lights event. Friendship levels will increase twice as fast, and Gifts from other players will provide greater rewards. To allow players to give and receive freely, the limit on Gifts opened daily will be increased to 45. Players will also be able to grab a free Festival of Lights T-shirt in the shop, as well as Dedenne-inspired stickers and items.

The Season of Mischief storyline in Pokemon GO will also continue during the Festival of Lights event. When players complete the Season's Special Research story, they'll gain access to a special event with Hoopa at the end of the Season. Finally, as the Festival of Lights is inspired by the Hindu celebration of Diwali, players in India will get some unique bonuses on November 7th. These include higher spawns for Blitzle and Dedenne, as well as double Catch Candy for the duration of the Festival of Lights. For those interested, it seems like there will be plenty to do during the event's runtime.

Pokemon GO is out now on iOS and Android.
