On Saturday, July 22nd, Pokemon GO players will participate in special events at Grant Park in Chicago and elsewhere around the world to unlock special bonuses as part of Pokemon GO Fest. Now Niantic has shared more details on what exactly the big Pokemon GO event will entail, revealing some of the unlocks as well as teasing a mystery challenge.

Basically, there will be three challenge windows where Pokemon GO players all over the world will try to catch as many Pokemon as possible. These challenge windows will be from 11:00am to 11:30am, 12:00pm to 12:30pm, and 3:00pm to 3:30pm. Those at Grant Park will rack up bonus modifiers for all Pokemon GO players by catching Pokemon of specific types, whereas those elsewhere will want to focus on simply catching them all to reach a gold tier rating.

Upon hitting gold tier, a mystery challenge will begin in Grant Park and take place from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Niantic is keeping this mystery challenge under wraps for the time being, but it’s possible that it has something to do with catching a legendary Pokemon or participating in a special raid. Whatever the mystery challenge entails, if it is completed, it will unlock an “extra-special bonus” for Pokemon GO players on a global scale.

According to Niantic, this global reward will be available to Pokemon GO players from July 23rd to July 24th, meaning that Pokemon trainers may have to wait a day to see what they’ve earned. Of course, that’s assuming that fans are able to catch enough Pokemon to complete the event to begin with.

While players have struggled to complete global community events in Pokemon Sun and Moon, it seems more likely that Pokemon GO fans will successfully unlock the Pokemon GO Fest bonuses. After all, tickets for the event sold out in 30 minutes, and while it may not be as popular as it was last year, Pokemon GO remains one of the biggest mobile games available.

We won’t have to wait long to see if Pokemon GO Fest is a success, as July 22nd is just a little over a week away. Pokemon GO enthusiasts should make sure to carve out some time to participate in the festivities that day if they want to reveal the mystery challenge and unlock the global reward.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
