In order for Pokemon GO fans to catch Mewtwo, one of the rarest and most recognizable legendary Pokemon in the history of the franchise, they have to receive a special EX Raid invite. The only requirement to receiving an EX Raid invite is completing a raid at the gym where Mewtwo and an EX Raid eventually spawns, but there are some tricks fans can do to increase their chances of receiving an invite.

According to The Silph Road, which collects data from Pokemon GO players worldwide, there are ways players can improve the odds that they receive an EX Raid invite. Firstly, they will want to make sure they complete raids mainly at parks and sponsored locations. Mewtwo seems to favor these gyms more than those located anywhere else, with park gyms accounting for a whopping 53% of EX Raid locations.

Players will also want to make sure that they have high level gym badges at these locations, as players with higher level gym badges seem to receive more EX Raid invites than others. Players that complete at least one raid a day also seem to receive more invites, so hardcore Pokemon GO players are far more likely to receive an EX Raid invite than those that just play the game every few days.

Hardcore Pokemon GO players are also more likely to receive EX Raid invites because they will likely be higher level players. The Silph Road's data shows that higher level Pokemon GO players receive more EX Raid invites than lower level players, so fans should take advantage of lucky eggs and double XP events as much as they possibly can to raise their level.

So, those that want to increase their odds of receiving EX Raid invites in Pokemon GO need to focus on gyms at parks, raise their gym badge level at park gyms, make sure that they complete at least one raid a day, and have a high trainer level. However, it's worth noting that even with all these boxes checked, it may still be fairly difficult for Pokemon GO players to receive an EX Raid invite.

In fact, those that have already received an EX Raid invite in Pokemon GO may become especially frustrated with the system. According to The Silph Road's data, those that have already received an EX Raid invite are far less likely to receive another. This is unfortunate, especially since it's extremely difficult to defeat Mewtwo, let alone get lucky enough to catch him. Hopefully Niantic takes fan complaints about the EX Raid system into consideration as it continues to make changes to its popular mobile game.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
