A special week-long Pokemon GO event celebrating Pokemon that evolve in unique and unusual ways begins today at 1:00 p.m. PST. Also, as part of the event, there will be an Evolution Event Raid Day this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in every player’s local time zone.

Like the holidays, events this like this one come but once every year. Thankfully this Pokemon GO guide covers all the features, bonuses, and raids that players can expect to encounter before the event ends next Thursday, December 12th, at 1:00 p.m. PST.

Evolution Event Features

Similar to the way family friendly Pokemon spawned more frequently during the Friend Fest Event last week, players can expect to see Pokemon that have unique ways of evolving, like Onix, Eevee, Roselia, and Burmy, spawning more often in the wild and during raids or Field Research. Players can also expect to encounter such Pokemon as Lickitung, Ralts, Scyther, and Togetic during raids.

At the start of the Evolution Event seven new Shiny Pokemon will also become available. This includes Shiny Burmy forms for the very first time, as well as Shiny Wormandam forms and Shiny Mothim.

Additionally, during the event, 2 km Eggs will have a higher probability of hatching into Pokemon such as Tyrogue, Feebas, Burmy, and Happiny. There will also be a lot of event specific Field Research tasks that reward Evolution items, helping players evolve some of their favorite Pokemon.

Evolution Event Bonuses

When it comes to bonuses during the event, all Lure Modules—including the Glacier, Magnetic, and Mossy Lure Modules—will last for one hour. Additionally, players will receive evolution items from raids as well as double XP when evolving Pokemon.

Evolution Event Raid Day

As mentioned before, there will also be an Evolution themed Raid day event that takes place on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in every player’s given time zone, and with it comes some challenging raid bosses.

Note: Within that three-hour window all evolution levels have a chance of being Shiny from Raids.

Raid Day Encounters

One Star Raids: Players will encounter Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

Two Star Raids: Players will encounter Ivysaur, Charmeleon, and Wartortle.

Four Star Raids: Players will encounter Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.

Also, players can receive up to five additional Raid Passes when they spin a Photo Disc at a gym within the Raid Day time period. However, even with the recently added potential for a larger inventory, players can only hold one pass at a time and the raid passes will not be available after the event period is over.
