Detective Pikachu hits theatres on May 10, but those excited for the new Pokemon movie can celebrate its release beforehand by partaking in a new crossover promotion event in Pokemon GO. The event is currently scheduled to begin on May 7 and run through May 17 in Pokemon GO and comes with a plethora of new content based on Detective Pikachu, with a focus on the Pokemon that appear in the movie.

For the duration of the event, there will be an increased spawn for those Pokemon appearing in the movie. The exact list coming to Pokemon GO hasn't been nailed down but could potentially include any of the following (or others): Pikachu, Psyduck, Snorlax, Jigglypuff, Snubbul, Mr. Mime, Charizard, or any other Pokemon shown in the recent Detective Pikachu Trailer.

Detective Pikachu Event Adds New Shiny Pokemon

Like events before it, this Pokemon GO event will see the addition of a new shiny Pokemon based on its appearance in Detective Pikachu, namely Aipom. Shiny Aipom, unlike its standard purple, has a hot pink coat that will likely stand out during the event.

Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu Event Raid Bosses/ Field Research

This Pokemon GO event is also adding Detective Pikachu-themed Raid Bosses and Field Research, though the exact details of either are still in the wind. For the new raids, the likeliest scenario is that this event just sees the addition of Pokemon to the current Raid pool, as it has already changed once recently due to the addition of the legendary lake trio: Azel, Mesprit, and Uxie. New Field Research has been confirmed, but the exact tasks and rewards remain officially in the dark.

Pokemon GO Avatar and Other Bonuses

As part of this Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu event, there will also be new apparel for the players' avatar. It appears to be a detective hat with Pikachu ears and a shirt with Detective Pikachu and the movie's logo on it. The final two bonuses of this event are double catch experience and a potential photobomb from Detective Pikachu, with the latter potentially resulting in the player catching the movie star.

Pokemon GO is out now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
